On June 30, 1998, a young starter band of Armenian-American musicians would release their first album for the world to hear. Named after the band that composed it, System of a Down would have such an impact on the metal music scene that it would eventually be considered by many as a must hear for any avid fan of music. This explosive entry in the musical scene was by no means a one-off as System of a Down (the band) (SoaD for short) would go on to release another 4 equally amazing albums nowadays considered masterpieces. For the uninitiated, SoaD is a nue-metal band whose message typically revolves around anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, and Armenian genocide recognition rhetoric. In order to better convey this message, their songs typically contain atypical lyrics and vulgar visualizations; “pulling a tapeworm out of one’s *ss” as a metaphor for addiction, “playing Russian roulette with a bullet-called life” to point out the dangers of militarism, and an entire song bragging about the size of their… as a call out of the exploitative and overly sexualized advertisement industry are but some of their best works.
