'It Takes a Thief' is the debut studio album by American rapper Coolio, released in July, 1994 on Tommy Boy Records. The album was a commercial success, thanks in part to the hit single “Fantastic Voyage,” which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With its funky, G-Funk-infused beats and Coolio’s smooth, laid-back flow, It Takes a Thief established Coolio as a rising star in the West Coast hip-hop scene. The album received praise for bringing a humorous and lighthearted perspective to often violent and profane themes of typical gangsta rap.
